Zeederberg Coach
Built in the USA, coaches like the one shown here were shipped over to Africa in the late 19th century. Cecil John Rhodes, the man for whom Rhodesia was eventually named, paid the following tribute to Christian Zeederberg, founder of Zeederberg Coaches: “(He) has done more than any other man to help open up Rhodesia.”
The following excerpt is taken from book #3 in the Dax Hunter Files, ‘A Brood of Vipers’.
All told, Elize’s arduous journey from The Netherlands to Fort Salisbury had taken close on three months.
On a frosty August morning in 1894, a small convoy of Zeederberg coaches rolled into Fort Salisbury. Disregarding company regulations, one defiant passenger had somehow managed to convince the coach crew to allow her to sit up on the bench between them. It was rather obvious why neither man appeared to mind Elize’s presence.
